Kalamata Olive bread

Artisan Bread is Back!

Bakers are using the time-honored process to make a beautiful loaf of bread. Artisan bread is handmade bread utilizing minimal, quality ingredients. Furthermore, artisan bread usually begins with a starter or a long fermentation process to create that fabulous taste. In other words, Artisan Bread is made with love! Forget the preservatives and added chemicals. Artisan bread is a back to basics process which dates back to bread makers long ago. There are many types of artisan bread. As a matter of fact, the bread we make here at Kalamata 505 is called “rustic.” Our loaves of bread are baked at high heat in cast iron skillets. The heat from the metal creates steam around the dough, and the tops crack naturally to develop a crisp, golden crust. The dough’s long fermentation process creates a wonderful flavor akin to sourdough. Our basic “Rustic Crust” bread is a lovely, crusty bread with an open texture. The many little holes allow butter or spread to be captured for more tasty goodness! Yum!

What goes along with artisan bread?

First of all, our flavored loaves of bread are delicious on their own, but spreads or dips do enhance the flavors. To try this, first make a mixture of olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and herbs. Then just layer these three ingredients on a small plate. Lastly, slice or tear off a piece of bread and start dipping the Greek way!
